My Empower projects are not being archived by SDMS - WKB44834

SYMPTOMS

• One or more projects in an Empower database are ready to be archived
• None of the projects has been archived by NuGenesis
• For the projects that were selected for manual archive, the project's SDMS state remains at "Locked for SDMS manual archive"
• The following message appears in the NuGenesis Archive Agent log file:

  • Error encountered while invoking remote EVS Server objects. :Could not connect to net.tcp://HostName:9992/SDMSDataExchangeService. The connection attempt lasted for a time span of 00:00:21.0166472. TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 172.16.224.2:9992.

ENVIRONMENT

• NuGenesis 8 SDMS
• An archive template is configured to back up Empower projects
• The Empower remote adapter is installed and configured on an Empower client or server machine

CAUSE

The NuGenesis Archive agent cannot connect to the Remote half of the data adapter.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Ensure that the following services are started on the Empower machine:
   • Waters SDMS EmpowerDA DataExchangeService
   • Waters SDMS EmpowerDA DataExchangeService DM
2. Confirm that the services are listening on the default ports:
   • Run the following program on the Empower machine: Drive:\Program Files (x86)\NuGenesis 8.0\EVS\config\EVSPortConfRemote.bat
   • The first port should be 9992 and the second port should be 9993
   • Close the configuration program
3. Ensure that the Windows firewall has openings for ports 9992 and 9993.
4. The error message includes the hostname as it was entered into the Archive Template and the resolved IP address for that name.
5. Run the ipconfig tool on the Empower machine to determine its current IP address.
6. If the IP address from the AA error message differs from the Empower machine's IP address, the issue is a DNS name resolution problem. Work with the DNS server administrator to ensure that the DNS A record for the Empower machine's hostname points to the correct IP address.
7. Within the SDMS Archive template for Empower projects, set the Grouping option to match the intended archive protocol:
   • "Empower Based" if the projects should be set for manual archive through the Empower system
   • "Project level" if the projects should be archived based on a set interval since the project's last modification date
   • If both protocols are needed, two lines are required in the Archive template, one with "Empower Based" and one with "Project level"
