Article number: 31057

ENVIRONMENT

  • Waters Serial Device Support
  • Tibbo Device Server models DS203 and DS1100

ANSWER

The following settings are recommended for Tibbo Device Servers:

  • General
    • DHCP: 0-Disabled
    • IP-address, Gateway IP-address, and Subnet mask: a static IP address assignment as provided by the IT department
  • Channel1
    • Connection timeout (min): 5
    • Transport protocol: 1- TCP
    • Inband commands: 0- Disabled
    • Routing Mode: 0- Server (Slave)
      • Accept connection from: 0- Any IP-address
      • Port: 1001
      • Connection mode: (irrelevant)
      • Destination IP-address: (irrelevant)
      • Destination port: (irrelevant)
    • Notification destination: 0- Last port
    • Serial interface: 0- Full Duplex
    • RTS/CTS flow control: 0- Disabled OR remote
    • DTR mode: 0- Idle or remote
      • Power-up DTR state: 0- LOW
    • Baudrate: <as appropriate for the connected instrument>
    • Parity: <as appropriate for the connected instrument>
    • Data bits: <as appropriate for the connected instrument>
    • Max intercharacter delay: 1
    • Soft entry into serial programming mode: 0- Disabled
      • Escape character (ASCII Code): (irrelevant)
    • On-the-fly commands: 0- Disabled
      • Password for on-the-fly commands: (irrelevant)
    • Notification bitmask: 0
    • Notification destination: 0- Last port

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Settings thatare marked "irrelevant" are marked as such in the Tibbo interface when the configuration parameters make the settings incompatible with other settings.  For example, the Routing Mode setting determines whether the Tibbo box listens for connections from the Ethernet port (Server mode), from the RS232 port (Client mode), or from both ports. The mode used by SDS is Server mode, and in this mode, the Connection Mode, Destination IP-address, and Destination Port parameters are not used.

The serial port settings, including RTS/CTS flow control, are best determined by the parameters of the connected instrument. Many instruments will use no flow control, 9600 baud, 8 data bits, and no parity; however, instruments can often be reconfigured to use non-default RS232 parameters. The best practice is to always match the Tibbo settings with the serial port settings in the connected device.
