OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Enable debug logging for Waters Serial Device Support (SDS) software.

ENVIRONMENT

  • SDS 2.0
  • NuGenesis 8 LMS
  • NuGenesis 8 ELN
  • Empower 3 Sample Weight Importer

PROCEDURE

  1. Open Windows Explorer and browse to the installation path for SDS.
    • Example: Drive:\Program Files (x86)\Waters\Waters Serial Device Support
  2. Edit the file "SDS.exe.config" in Notepad.
  3. Look for the following lines in the file:
    • <root>
        <level value="ERROR"/>
        <appender-ref ref="WatersSDSFileAppender"/>
  4. Set the value to "DEBUG".
  5. Save and close the file.
  6. Restart the SDS software if it is running.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The SDS log file will be written to the user's AppData folder in their user profile. To open the log file, paste "%APPDATA%\Waters\Waters Serial DeviceSupport" into the Run prompt. Look for files like "Waters.SDS-DATE.log".  By default, SDS will create a new log file for each date.
