ANSWER

Some examples of when the Windows archive attribute on a file is changed:

  • File is new (attribute set)
  • File is modified (attribute set)
  • NTFS permissions changed on the shared folder (attributes set)
  • File is archived by external process (attribute removed)
  • File is archived by SDMS, when using Reset archive bit option (attribute removed)
  • File with archive attribute not set is copied from one NTFS volume to another (attribute set)
