"Microsoft Office Customization Installer" window appears when starting Excel in NuGenesis LMS - WKB257927

SYMPTOMS

• A window with the following message appears when users open Excel sections in NuGenesis LMS documents:
  • Microsoft Office Customization Installer
    Publisher cannot be verified
    Are you sure you want to install this customization?
    Name: FormDesigner - FormDesigner
    From: file://Drive:/path/Waters/NuGenesis LMS Smart Builder/FormDesigner.vsto
    Publisher: Unknown Publisher
• If the user clicks Install, the Smart Builder plugin is active and functional in Excel
• If they click Don't Install, Smart Builder is not loaded in Excel
• This prompt appears for many users, and only for the first Excel section in their Citrix session
• When a user logs off (or their Citrix session times out), they see the above message again on their first Excel section in a new session

ENVIRONMENT

• NuGenesis 9 LMS
• LMS client installed on Citrix servers

CAUSE

The user's profile is not saved when the user's Citrix session ends. Everything set within their profile, including registry entries set in HKCU, is erased on logoff.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Either do not erase the user's profile on logoff, or
2. Use group policies to set the following keys within the user's profile on logon:
   • HKCU\Software\Microsoft\VSTO\Security\Inclusion
   • HKCU\Software\Microsoft\VSTO\SolutionMetadata
   • Copy the registry keys from a known-good system into a group policy set to take effect on user logon
