Can I run the NuGenesis LMS Job services on more than one server? - WKB2052

Article number: 2052

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 8 ELN SR1
  • NuGenesis 8 LMS FR1
  • NuGenesis 8 LMS SR2
  • More than one NuGenesis ELN or LMS server per environment (production, development, test, validation, other)

ANSWER

No, the NuGenesis LMS Job Manager and Scheduler services are not designed to operate on more than one server in one environment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

If the LMS Job services run on more than one LMS server in an environment, and if they connect to the same database, the two sets of services will conflict with each other, and the background jobs in ELN or LMS will not run per their schedules. Waters' recommendation for the LMS Job services in a multi-server load-balanced environment is as follows:

  1. Choose one server as the one to run the LMS Job services.  On that server, set the NuGenesis LMS Job Manager aand the NuGenesis LMS Job Scheduler services to the started state and Automatic startup.
  2. On all other servers in the environment, set the LMS Job services to the Stopped state and Manual startup type.
  3. If the LMS server that hosts the active LMS Job services should ever fail and need to be taken offline, then modify the status and startup type of the LMS Job services on another server as specified in step 1.  The services will resume execution of the background jobs as specified through the LMS client.

The NuGenesis Connectors framework includes a stand-alone copy of the LMS Job services.  The Connectors services are separate from the LMS Job services and do not conflict with the LMS Job services; therefore, the Connectors services and the LMS Job services can both be active in the same environment.  As with the LMS services, only one set of the NuGenesis Connectors services should be active in one environment.
