Error "Method '~' of object '~' failed" appears in the NuGenesis Archive Agent activity log file - WKB19300

SYMPTOMS

• The following error message appears in the Archive Agent log file:
  • "Method '~' of object '~' failed"

ENVIRONMENT

• NuGenesis 8 SDMS

CAUSE

The archive agent encountered an error while executing a method in a third-party SDK. Some data adapters, such as Thermo Finnigan Xcalibur, require the use of a third-party SDK in order to capture product-specific metadata. If the files to be archived by NuGenesis are not compatible with the third-party software, the NuGenesis Archive Agent writes this message to the log file.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Open the file manually in the client application to verify its compatibility with the third-party application:
   1. Copy the file to the NuGenesis server.
   2. Open the third-party application.
   3. Open the data file within the application. Take note of whether the application can open the file, and of any message boxes displayed by the application.
2. If the application cannot open the file, either create a new line in the Archive Template to capture the files with the Generic adapter—which does not reference any product-specific SDKs—or obtain the correct third-party application and SDK and install that software on the NuGenesis server.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This error can occur with any SDMS data adapter that relies on the vendor's own software/SDK for data capture. This error has specifically been observed with the Xcalibur data adapter and the Xcalibur 2.0 software when it attempts to archive RAW files that were created in Xcalibur 2.1 or 3.0.
