Error "Unable to start Archive Template Builder application" when editing a NuGenesis archive template - WKB16931

SYMPTOMS

• The following error message appears when creating or editing an archive template in SDMS Administrator:
  • "Unable to start Archive Template Builder application" 

ENVIRONMENT

• NuGenesis 8 SDMS.
• Data Adapters R1 or later

CAUSE

The template uses the data adapters "Empower-2 Results", "Empower-3 Results", "Empower-2 Injections", or "Empower-3 Injections".  These adapters were deprecated in NuGenesis 8.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Manually export the "Empower-2 Results" and "Empower-3 Results" registry keys from a working DAR0 system and import them into the new system.

2. The registry keys will allow the Template Builder to open the template; however, because the data adapters will not be on the server, the template cannot be used, and running it would result in errors in the Archive Agent log file.
3. Open the template, and then switch back to SDMS Administrator and create a new template in the same project.
4. In the old template, select each line that you want to keep, and click the Copy button.
5. Switch to the new template and click the Paste button.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all lines, except for the Empower-2 Results and Empower-3 Results lines, are in the new template.
7. Save the new template to the database.
8. Close both templates.
9. In the Project Properties window, select the Templates tab, select the old template, and click Disable.
10. Edit the Archive Agent's configuration to remove the old template and add the new template.
11. Restart the Archive Agent module.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

In SDMS 7.1 and earlier, the data adapters for Empower 2 and Empower 3 had three options for backing up data from Empower: full projects, injections, and results. The data adapters in NuGenesis 8 support only the archival of full project backups from Empower 2 and Empower 3. As a consequence, the Data Adapters installation program did not install the program code for the Injections and Results; nor did it make the registry entries for these adapters. This procedure adds just the necessary registry entries to allow the template builder program to open the old template. The old template lines will not be functional in NuGenesis 8.
