ANSWER
The red border comes from the "Reason for Change" setting applied to the cells. Reason for Change is triggered whenever Smart Builder (SB) sees that a value is changed in a RfC-protected cell. If the user types a new value into the cell, SB asks for a text description of the change. It then displays a red border around the changed cell. The red border cannot be turned off. The text in such cells is very small, about a 1-point font, but it triggers an RfC box and the border color change.
