SYMPTOMS

• When opening the console there is a quick message saying the console application is shutting down, followed by a .NET Framework error "c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\config\machine.config Parser returned error 0xc00ce556"

ENVIRONMENT

• Any computer running MassLynx

CAUSE

Corrupted "machine.config" file

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Create a new "machine.config" file in the .NET Framework folder.
2. Go to C:\\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v2.0.50727\Config\ directory, delete the corrupted machine.config file.
3. Go back to the machine.config.default file and rename it to machine.config. If asked by your computer whether or not you really want to mess with the file extension, confirm the action.
4. Move the new machine.config file to C:\\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v2.0.50727\Config\.
5. Close File Explorer and restart the computer.
