ACQUITY Console blank with "Unhandled exception .NET Framework error" on Win10 PC with MassLynx - WKB90162

SYMPTOMS

• PC with Waters Windows 10 image 
• .NET Framework error while opening ACQUITY Console in MassLynx; console appears blank
• Specific error: "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. No such host is known"
• Driver packs were reinstalled

ENVIRONMENT

• MassLynx
• Windows 10
• Waters image
• ACQUITY Console

CAUSE

Computer name is longer than 15 characters.

Microsoft Windows has a 15-character limit for a PC name, and this will cause the console to appear blank and produce a .NET Framework error.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Control Panel > System and Security > System
2. Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings > Change Settings
3. Computer Name tab > Change...
4. Computer name: [Enter a name shorter than 15 characters.]
5. Click OK > Apply > OK.
6. Reboot the host PC.
