MassLynx IQ Checker reports failed installation - WKB8008

SYMPTOMS

• IQ Checker can report "fail" for some components during installation of MassLynx 4.1/4.2 SCNs,  and also when running the IQ Checker manually (Start > Programs > MassLynx > IQ Checker)

• In old SCNs (e.g., LCT Premier), the IQ Checker fails the MassLynx installation if the time zone of the PC's clock is set to anything other than Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or UTC+0:00

• For more recent MassLynx SCNs, the IQ Checker passes the installation if the PC's time zone is set to Eastern Time (USA), Pacific Time (USA), or GMT; other time zones may still cause IQ Checker to report failures

• Installation Qualification Checker log might show FAIL  Create Date

ENVIRONMENT

MassLynx 4.1/4.2

CAUSE

The problem lies with Installation Qualification Checker, not MassLynx or the PC. The problem is caused by the way the operating system and the MassLynx 4.1/4.2 IQ Checker interact when the time zone is changed.  
 

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Before installing any software, set the PC time zone to GMT or UTC +0:00 (as shown in the screen shot below).

2. Install ML 4.1 with all the required software options.
3. Reboot the PC (not essential - but is good practice).
4. Load MassLynx—the IQ checker at the end of installation will cycle around three times and will pass without errors.
5. Run the IQ Checker manually and confirm that all files pass via Start > Programs > MassLynx > IQ Checker.
6. If requested to do so by the customer, reset the PC clock to the local time zone (note point 2 below).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

1. Although the IQ Checker may report installation failures if the PC time setting is set to anything other than GMT at the time of installation and/or at the time of manually running the IQ Checker, the MassLynx files are actually correctly installed.
2. If the customer wants to use a different time zone after the above procedure, warn them that if they attempt to run the IQ Checker manually it will report failures. If the customer subsequently requires IQ Checker to be run at a later date for any reason, the time should be set to GMT / UTC+0:00 prior to running the IQ Checker.
