Blank fields in the TargetLynx summary table in MassLynx 4.1 - WKB5162

SYMPTOMS

• File Name, Sample ID, Sample Type, Standard Concentration, and Vial fields are correctly populated; other fields are blank
• Results cannot be uploaded from MassLynx LIMS Interface to a hospital LIMS

ENVIRONMENT

• MassLynx 4.1
• TargetLynx

CAUSE

The problem occurs when a TargetLynx or TargetLynx XS dataset is created in a more recent version of MassLynx that contains a relatively advanced version of TargetLynx, and the QLD file is then moved to a PC that has an older or less advanced version of TargetLynx. When the QLD file is opened on the new PC, some of the fields are blank. Similarly, a TargetLynx method file that was created in a more advanced version of TargetLynx cannot be opened in an older and less advanced version.

The problem with the LIMS Interface occurs because the Job field in TargetLynx is also blank. The Job field is not displayed in the TargetLynx Summary Table, but it can be seen by exporting the results to an XML results file. Because it contains the Assay ID, the Job field is a mandatory field for the LIMS Interface.

Waters does not guarantee the forward compatibility of TargetLynx results and methods.

However, Waters does guarantee the backward compatibility of results and methods. So datasets and method files that were created in less advanced versions of TargetLynx can always be opened in the more recent and advanced versions.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. If possible, upgrade MassLynx on the second PC so that the QLD files are correctly opened. If this is not possible (for example, because the acquisition control software cannot be upgraded), avoid moving QLD files between the PCs.
2. If there is a problem with the LIMS Interface, install the LIMS Interface on the PC with the most recent version of MassLynx, or install the LIMS Interface on both MassLynx PCs.
