Cannot open or process MassLynx data - WKB49573

SYMPTOMS

• Cannot open MassLynx data in the Chromatogram view
• Cannot process MassLynx data with TargetLynx

ENVIRONMENT

• MassLynx (all versions and SCNs)

CAUSE

All .inf files are missing from the .raw data file (_expment.inf, _functns.inf, _inlet.inf)

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Locate a data file that was acquired using the same inlet method and MS method and can be opened successfully in MassLynx.
2. Browse to this file through Windows Explorer.
3. Copy the .inf files from the "good" data file and paste them into the .raw file of all effected files (those missing the .inf files).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

If these steps do not resolve the issue OR if there are no available data files that were acquired with the same MS and inlet methods and can be opened in MassLynx, then the samples need to be analyzed and new data files generated.

A common reason why the .inf files would be missing from the .raw data files:
The system restore removed all the .inf files from the MassLynx data folders.

System Restore looks for all .inf files created or modified after the restore point and removes them. MassLynx raw data folders contain .inf files such as _functns.inf and _extern.inf containing information on the devices and hardware operations. MassLynx needs these files to open the data.
