Space or periods in file name prevents chromatogram from opening in MassLynx - WKB3491

Article number: 3491

SYMPTOMS

  • Chromatogram fails to open when using the Chromatogram option in the sample list
  • Chromatogram opens using File > Open Data File from the main MassLynx page
  • Chromatogram opens using File > Open from the Chromatogram view
  • When trying to open a chromatogram or process data on a sample that has run, MassLynx indicates that there is no data
  • When checking the .raw data there is data present and has the same file name

ENVIRONMENT

  • MassLynx 4.1

CAUSE

Space (or periods) in front of the filename text. MassLynx does not account for the space in front of the file name when running the sample so when you try to open it from the sample list it is not recognized.

For example, when running " GS Sample 1" MassLynx will only recognize "GS Sample 1" (Space before GS)

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Edit the file name on the sample list, removing the space or periods.
  2. Edit the file name in Windows, removing the space or periods.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Leading spaces typically occur when pasting in names from Excel etc.
