SYMPTOMS

• Cannot connect an Agilent 7890A GC to Empower 3 as an A7890
• Windows 10
• Feature Release 5
• ICF 3.2
• Agilent 7890 Instrument Control Software Version 2.6
• Can ping the instrument IP address
• Communicates fine when set up as AgGC

ENVIRONMENT

• Empower 3
• Empower 3 Personal
• Empower 3 Workgroup
• Empower 3 Enterprise
• Agilent 7890 GC

CAUSE

The legacy driver ICF 2.6 is not guaranteed to work on Windows 10.

FIX or WORKAROUND

There is no workaround to set up as an A7890. You must use the ICF 3.2 driver and set it up as AgGC.
