If you set up an Agilent 5890 or Agilent 6890 instrument method and the instrument is connected through a serial RS 232 port, the message "instrument name at address:port number, Setup Error - Communications Failure" appears in the Message Center if one of the following occurs:

An instrument other than the configured instrument is connected.
A third-party firewall blocks communication over serial ports.
