How should I set my filter time constant for an ACQUITY UPLC PDA or ACQUITY UPLC TUV detector? - WKB90261

Article number: 90261

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower 3
  • Empower 2
  • MassLynx
  • ACQUITY UPLC PDA
  • ACQUITY UPLC TUV

ANSWER

Set the time constant so that it filters out high-frequency noise. Too low of a time constant may be ineffective and too high of a time constant may result in smoothing some of the peaks away. The optimum time constant is calculated from 1/Sampling Rate. So if sampling at two points per second, set the time constant to 0.5. In general, the higher the sampling rate (needed for very narrow peaks), the lower the time constant.

For narrow peaks, use filter time constants below one second.

There is a table of recommended values in Empower online Help. If you want to type the value manually, click the Filter Time Constant drop-down list, select Other, and type the desired time constant in the field to the right.
