Empower - SELECT SUM(BYTES) FROM SYS.DBA FREE SPACE followed by ORA-01405 - WKB81027

SYMPTOMS

• When logging into Empower 3, two messages are generated in the Message Center. SELECT SUM(BYTES) FROM SYS.DBA_FREE_SPACE WHERE TABLESPACE_NAME= :name and Oracle Error ORA-01405: fetched column value is NULL.

ENVIRONMENT

• Empower 3 

CAUSE

The Oracle database file System.dbf is full and cannot be extended, and the amount of free space available for the System.dbf is blank. The blank free space is causing the ORA-01405.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Add an additional System.dbf file using the Waters Database Manager (WDM). When adding the file name ensure that you provide the complete path to the file instead of just the new file name.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The System.dbf may not be extendable even though space usage is a small percentage of its maximum file size capacity and a reboot has no impact. The solution is to add a second System.dbf file with a different name such as System02.dbf using the complete path to the file where the original file is located.
