Empower Error: Buffering would overwrite - WKB750

SYMPTOMS

• In the Run Samples window, when you click Run, "Error - Buffering would overwrite" message appears
• Empower Message Center Error "System Idle - Buffering would overwrite"

ENVIRONMENT

• Empower 2
• Empower 3

CAUSE

• Indicates buffering is occurring and that information will be lost if the action requested is completed.
• Error occurs when restarting an interrupted Sample Set.
• "Overwrite" notifies the user that the existing Samsetxxxx.dat file will be replaced (or overwritten) with new information if the action is allowed to proceed.
• To preserve integrity, Empower is designed to prevent you from performing this kind of action.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Correct the underlying buffering issue. Once the buffered data is uploaded, the Sample Set can be re-injected.
2. Restart the computer and instruments.
3. Restart the interrupted sample set.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• Look into and correct the underlying buffering issue. Once you upload the buffered data, you can re-inject the sample set.
• The "overwrite" notifies the user that the existing Samsetxxxx.dat file would be replaced (or overwritten) with new information if the action is allowed to proceed.
  • However, Empower is designed to prevent users from doing precisely that sort of action, thus preserving data integrity.
• In some cases, the cause of the buffering is name resolution, so hard coding the name and IP address into the HOSTS file eliminates that.
