When two users concurrently select Properties to edit a User Group, the changes made by the first user are overwritten when the second user saves changes - WKB65327

Article number: 65327

SYMPTOMS

  • User 1 selects Properties to edit a particular User Group
  • User 2 selects Properties to edit the same User Group
  • User 1 changes a property and clicks OK to save their changes
  • A system audit trail shows this change
  • User 2 changes a different property and clicks OK to save their changes
  • A system audit trail shows this change, as well as a change to reverse the change made by User 1
  • The change made by User 1 (the first user to save changes) is no longer seen in the properties, just the changes made by User 2 (the last user to save changes)

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower 3

CAUSE

Both users are editing the same original properties for the User Group. Although the behavior is expected, there is no warning to the user.

When the first user saves their changes, these become the new properties, but the second user is still editing the properties. So, when the second user saves their changes, the changes made by the first user are overwritten.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. When saving changes to objects in the Configuration Manager, examine recent system audit trails for other recent changes to the same object.
  2. Open the properties for the object that was saved to confirm that your changes and other recent changes are as expected.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

CRI-578 has been entered for this defect.

Similar behavior is seen with User Type, User, and Plate changes, so the impact is not limited to the tested system objects.

In the case of User Type changes, there was no system audit trail to show that the change made by the first user was reversed.
