Can a new project be created with the same name as another project in Empower? - WKB6277

Article number: 6277

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower 2
  • Empower 3

ANSWER

Yes, however, the projects cannot exist at the same project hierarchy level.

Attempts to create a project with the same name at the same hierarchy level will result in a message stating that there is a project with the same name in the same hierarchy level. Empower will permit the creation a project with the same name under a different hierarchy (i.e., the project would need to have a different parent project).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • The same project name will never be possible within the same hierarchy level.

  • Schema are created using the naming convention W_PROJECTNAME_XXX. Depending on the Empower version, special characters in the project name will be ignored when in the schema name.

  • To ensure project directory uniqueness, Empower will name the project directories in one of two ways depending on the Empower version.

Empower 2 through Empower 3 FR5 create project directories using PROJECTNAME^X

Empower 3 SR4 and later create project directories using PROJECTNAME_X

Example for Empower 3 SR4 and later:

Project 2022/2 created at the root in Empower

  • Name                     = 2022_2
  • Schema name        = W_2022_2_000
  • Raw data directory = c:\Empower\Projects\2022_2
  • Hierarchy               = Projects\2022_2

Create project 2022_2 with the parent 2022_2 i.e. in the original 2022/2 hierarchy

  • Name                     = 2022_2
  • Schema name        = W_2022_2_001
  • Raw data directory = C:\Empower\Projects\2022_2_0
  • Hierarchy               = Projects\2022_2\2022_2
