Can instrument failures be logged against a user who is not logged in? - WKB61175

Article number: 61175

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower

ANSWER

Instrument server connections are persistent and therefore activities such as instrument failures or communication failures will be recorded in the message center and these events will be logged against the last user to connect to the system. In some instances this may be logged against a user who is not logged in to Empower. Instrument power failure, power disconnection, or LAN/Comms cable disconnection, which can occur outside of acquisitions, may be logged against the last connected user.

In the example below, System/Administrator was connected to AGILENT1200 and then, after logging off, the instrument was switched off. No other user connected to the instrument. A communication error is recorded against the last user, which was System/Administrator, but the user is not logged in. There may also be a delay between the instrument failure or communication failure and its recording in the message center.
