Sample set method changes have no user-entered comments if the sample set method isn't saved by the user after using Alter Running Sample Set - WKB57453

Article number: 57453

SYMPTOMS

  • The system policies and the project are set to require comments for changes to methods, but not for changes to samples
  • While running a sample set, Alter Running Sample Set is used to change the running sample set
  • After making changes to the sample set table, the user does not click Save to save the sample set method.
  • The sample set method is saved and the Modified Method audit trail has the Reason set to "altered running".
  • The user is not given an opportunity to enter a comment if they don't click Save before clicking the green button to continue the run

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower 3

CAUSE

This is not a defect because if the user actually clicks Save for the sample set method changes, they will have an opportunity to enter a comment. If they don't want to save the method or forget to click Save, there is still an audit trail.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. If comments are required for sample changes as well as method changes, the user will have an opportunity to enter comments for this particular workflow.
  2. In this case, the user is prompted to enter comments for the Alter Sample Set action because they have comments for samples turned on. The same comment is used for the sample set method if the user doesn't click Save for the method.
