ANSWER

Java is installed by Oracle when Empower is installed, therefore the version installed is dictated by the Oracle version deployed.

Empower itself does not use Java. Therefore no specific version is required.

No updates to Java are required or allowed under the Waters embedded license.

Java is used by Oracle Enterprise Manager and Waters Database Manager, we do not test or support any specific Java versions beyond what is initially installed.

Java is installed automatically if Connections Insight is used. (deprecated Jan 2019 - WKB55624_Discontinuance_of_Connections_INSIGHT) 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• Removing JAVA from the Oracle deployment is untested and may cause undesired behaviour with Oracle.
• JAVA must not be removed or modified as it is installed by our product and covered under the Waters Oracle License.

Typically the following JAVA versions were installed with the listed Oracle version

• Oracle 11.2.0.4:            Java 5 (updated to Java 7 with patch 25803774)
• Oracle 12.1.0.2:           Java 6 (updated to Java 7 with patch 27301652)
• Oracle 12.2.0.1:           Java 8
• Oracle 18c:                  Java 8
• Oracle 19c:                  Java 8
