Error message "reboot is pending" appears during Empower installation - WKB4189

SYMPTOMS

• Installation of Empower 3 onto PC
• Error message of "Install cannot continue, reboot is pending" appears and will not allow the process to continue.
• Restarting the PC does not fix the problem.

ENVIRONMENT

• Empower 3

CAUSE

1. A registry key in the computer directory is preventing Empower from being loaded onto the PC.
2. In one of the case third party applications (Gigabyte/HP/Dell) installed in computer preventing empower installation.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Click the Windows Start button.
2. Type "regedit" in the search bar.
3. Open "regedit.exe" file,
4. Follow filepath "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>WOW6432Node>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>RunOnce".
5. If there is an entry labeled "SymSilent", right-click and delete it.
6. Exit regedit.exe.
7. Restart PC and perform installation of Empower software.

If above didn't resolve the issue then look for unwanted third party applications and uninstall them.
