"ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor" after Empower workstation host name is changed - WKB266259

SYMPTOMS

• ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor 
• Workstation host name was changed

ENVIRONMENT

• Empower
• TNSNAMES.ORA

CAUSE

The workstation hostname was changed back to the original, but the service name in TNSNAMES.ORA did not match what was configured in the database.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Open a CMD window.
2. Run LSNRCTL.
3. Run STATUS.
4. Confirm that the service name listed is the same in the TNSNAMES.ORA in both Oracle paths.
   • \Empower\Oracle\OracleXXx\network\admin
   • \Empower\Oracle\OracleXXxClient\network\admin
