Warning message "This operating system is not supported. Do you want to continue with installation?" for Empower 3 installation - WKB251318

SYMPTOMS

• Warning message for Empower 3 installation: "This operating system is not supported. Do you want to continue with the installation?"
• Warning message in Empower install log (after proceeding with installation): "This is a non-validated installation due to an unsupported operating system"

ENVIRONMENT

• Empower 3 Enterprise
• Empower 3 Personal
• Dell 3650 PC
• Config 16 LAC/E
• Config 17 LAC/E
• Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC

CAUSE

These messages are due to a change in Microsoft licensing which updates the Windows product name. The addition of “IoT” in the product name causes the installer to generate the unsupported operating system message.

FIX or WORKAROUND

Continue with the installation and attach this article as supporting qualification documentation. (CRI-5003 will be addressed in Empower 3.8.0.)
