ETC/GMT time zones appear to have an incorrect adjustment sign in Empower - WKB247567
Article number: 247567
SYMPTOMS
- When we select the Node Time Zone as ETC/GMT+ in Empower Node Properties, the Node Time adjustment is reversed as ETC/GMT- time and vice versa
ENVIRONMENT
- Empower 3
- Empower 3 Personal
- Empower 3 Workgroup
- Empower 3 Enterprise
CAUSE
To conform with the POSIX style, zone names beginning with "Etc/GMT" have their sign reversed from the standard ISO 8601 convention. In the "Etc" area, zones west of GMT have a positive sign and those east have a negative sign in their name (for example, "Etc/GMT-14" is 14 hours ahead of GMT).
FIX or WORKAROUND
If you want to use the time zone with ETC/GMT option from the Time Zone List, you must use the reverse sign per your respective Time ETC/GMT time zone.
For example, if the actual time zone is ETC/GMT+3, you must select ETC/GMT-3 from the Time Zone List and vice versa.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Waters is aware of the scenario and it has no control of when a given region may change their policy with Daylight Savings Time changes. These changes are reflected in both Operating System and Database updates that are included with updated releases of Waters Informatics products.
- For now, we can advise that customers can choose to implement an ETC/GMT timezone as long they understand the importance of the +/- designation.
- The Etc/GMT time zone has never observed Daylight Savings Time and there are no future Daylight Savings Time rules for this time zone.
