Empower sample set method automatically saves in Run Samples window as of SR5 - WKB207943
Article number: 207943
SYMPTOMS
- When a sample set method is modified via Alter Running Sample Set and you select the Run button, the sample set method is automatically saved in Empower SR5 and higher as the current version. In versions prior to SR5, this same action would also save the sample set method (SSM), but the modified SSM would not be saved as the current version, allowing the original version to be used as a template.
After modifying a loaded sample set in Run Samples and pressing the green Run button without explicitly saving the sample set method (SSM): |
Modified SSM is saved automatically by Empower with a new ID and incremented version |
Modified SSM is associated with the acquired sample set |
All SSM versions are displayed in method properties |
Updated SSM is seen as the "current" method in Project window |

CAUSE
This change is a result of modifications for CRI-427: Sample Set Method now saves automatically. This change was made in Empower 3 Service Release 5. CRI-3816 tracks customers asking for clarification of this change.
FIX or WORKAROUND
- If you previously used a sample set method (SSM) as a "master method", we recommend using a sample set method template as your "master method".
- To prevent overwriting an existing sample set method, you can save the method using the Save Method As function to save it with a new name.
- To prevent overwriting an existing SSM, the SSM can be locked.
- To acquire data using the "master" SSM without modifying it:
- In Run Samples, select File > New Sample Set Method > Based On Existing Sample Set Method.
- Select the appropriate SSM.
- Make edits as needed.
- Press the Run button. Give the sample set a name.
- Result: The !QuickSet SSM is associated with this sample set (right-click on sample set > View As > Sample Set Methods). The original SSM is not modified.
