Can I change my Empower Enterprise network to a different domain? - WKB191617

Article number: 191617

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower 3 Enterprise

ANSWER

Things to consider for a domain change:

If the customer is using Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) in the TNSNAMES.ora file instead of the computer short name or IP address, then this will need to be updated (and verified on all nodes).  If the server/LACE/Client names are not changing, and the IP addresses are not changing then there shouldn't be a significant risk.
Empower uses only domain name resolution, so as long DNS is working on the new domain and the different nodes are able to resolve the names of the other nodes then it should be fine.  Ensure that the new domain does not change GPOs or other security policies (including firewall and AV software).

If they specify a specific domain group that Empower uses, but it doesn't exist in the new domain, that will pose a problem (eg. if assigned for access to Project share or DCOM permissions).

Is the customer using LDAP for Empower authentication?  If so, they will need to add this new domain to the list and will need to remap the users to the new domain.

If this Empower Network was installed by the local Informatics Deployment Specialist, then they should be consulted to assist, especially for continued ongoing support.
