SYMPTOMS

  • A "Checking System Usage" message never goes away when trying to access an Empower chromatographic system

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower 3 FR2 HF1 SR2
  • Agilent 1100

CAUSE

Corrupt system/instsrv.dat file

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Take the system offline in Configure the System and export its configuration to the desktop.
  2. Delete the system for all users.
  3. Delete the instsrv.dat file in the Empower\instrumentserver folder.
  4. Shut down Windows to power-off. Power-off the instruments.
  5. Power-on the PC or LAC/E and wait for it to launch the Windows desktop and become idle.
  6. Power-on the instruments.
  7. Rebuild the chromatographic system.
