Empower 3 Run Samples Shimadzu instrument control error: Failed to initialize the connection to the LC system - WKB11034

SYMPTOMS

• Error message in Empower Message Center when attempting to connect to a Shimadzu CBM-20A controller through Empower in Run Samples: "Failed to initialize the connection to the LC system. (Confirm the cable is connected, the instrument is powered on and the instrument's communication settings are correct.)"

• The instrument can be controlled directly through a Web browser

• The IP address can be pinged

• Driver pack version 3.10 SP6

ENVIRONMENT

• Empower 3 HF1
• Shimadzu CBM-20A controller

CAUSE

The MAC address in the Empower DHCP configuration table does not match the MAC address of the instrument found/configured in the Shimadzu System Check.

FIX or WORKAROUND

Run a System Check through the instrument Web browser interface using its IP address or the Shimadzu Lab Solutions CDS software to determine the MAC address and IP address that are configured. Deleting the entry from the Empower DHCP table and specifying the correct IP address, MAC address, type, and serial number corrects the communications issue.
