Can I use methanol for plasma samples the Ostro Protein Precipitation and Phospholipid Removal Plate, 25 mg, 1/pkg (186005518)? - WKB32046

Article number: 32046

ENVIRONMENT

  • Ostro
  • Sample Preparation

ANSWER

No. Use acetonitrile as the protein precipitation solvent.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Using methanol as a protein precipitation solvent for plasma samples on Ostro plates results in the formation of a gelatinous material, as opposed to a solid precipitate. This causes poor flow through of samples on Ostro plates.  Waters recommends using acetonitrile because the proteins will form a solid precipitate and allow for better flow through of the supernatant on the Ostro plate.
