How should I start and stop nitrogen gas flow into the Waters Positive Pressure-96 Processor (186006961)? - WKB230473
OBJECTIVE or GOAL
Initiate gas flow into the Waters Positive Pressure-96 Processor and then stop gas flow.
ENVIRONMENT
- Solid-phase extraction (SPE)
- Positive Pressure-96 Processor
- Nitrogen flow
PROCEDURE
To begin using the unit from zero gas flow:
- Connect the blue tube to the back of the unit.
- Connect the blue tube to a pressure regulator that is connected to an oil-free nitrogen gas source.
- Set the pressure regulator to "0" before opening the valve on the gas source. This prevents a pressure spike leading to the unit.
- Ensure that the "SPE Flow Rate selector" switch on the front of the unit is set to the "Off" position.
- Slowly open the valve on the gas source while keeping the pressure regulator set to "0".
- Slowly open the pressure regulator valve until the desired pressure is reached. Tip: The optimum source pressure is 80 psig, the minimum pressure is 60 psig, and the maximum pressure is 100 psig.
- Follow instructions in the User Guide for controlling flow with the "Low Flow Regulator" and "Max Flow Regulator".
To stop using the unit and turn off gas flow:
Follow the previous steps in reverse.

Note:
Waters does not recommend disconnecting the tube from this unit on a regular basis. This can cause the tube to wear out.
Also: The pressure regulator, if turned to "0" when you turn on your gas, will prevent any pressure spikes from reaching this unit.
