Does manganese oxide have detrimental effects on the internal surfaces of a UPLC system? - WKB122300

Article number: 122300

ENVIRONMENT

  • Manganese oxide
  • UPLC columns
  • Column care and use

ANSWER

Yes. Manganese oxide interacts with metals in the system and the column, causing buildup of particulates and reducing column life.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

In water, manganese oxide has very low solubility promotes interaction with anions to salts, in particular iron. Orange in color, the particulates turn black in contact with iron. Any free metals should be removed prior to injection into the LC system.
