Is there really a chromatographic difference when using methanol or acetonitrile in reverse-phase chromatography? - WKB91651

Article number: 91651

ENVIRONMENT

  • Method development
  • Reverse-phase chromatography
  • Methanol
  • Acetonitrile

ANSWER

Yes. Acetonitrile is the stronger solvent in reverse-phase separations. Compounds tend to elute faster with Acetonitrile compared with the use of methanol.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Acetonitrile and methanol are used in screening method development experiments because they have different influences on reverse-phase chromatography.
