Can I inject samples that contain 1% SDS onto a BEH SEC column? - WKB58883

Article number: 58883

ENVIRONMENT

  • Size exclusion chromatography (SEC)
  • Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)
  • BEH SEC columns

ANSWER

Yes, but this changes column performance (see additional information).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

It is OK to inject samples that contain 1% SDS onto BEH SEC columns, but note the following:

1. If these columns are exposed to SDS, they will never perform the same way they did before the exposure.

2. If injecting samples with 1% SDS, you may need to include 0.1% SDS in the mobile phase.

3. The more SDS in the mobile phase, the "larger" the protein will be, so it may be necessary to go to a wider pore diameter.
