Can surfactants be used in the sample diluent or mobile phase when using a BEH SEC column? - WKB58562
Article number: 58562
ENVIRONMENT
- BEH SEC columns
- Surfactants
- Mobile phase
- Sample diluent
ANSWER
Adding a surfactant such as Polysorbate 80 or Tween 20 can substantially reduce the lifetime of the column. Surfactants on a column can form micelles (250A in diameter) in solutions and layers on surfaces.
