Can I run a VanGuard pre-column or ACQUITY in-line filter in front of a 50-mm ACQUITY column? - WKB57674

Article number: 57674

ENVIRONMENT

  • VanGuard

ANSWER

For very short columns (less than 50mm), Waters generally does not recommend running a guard.

Use of a VanGuard in front of a 50-mm column depends on the customer's project goals, including the complexity of the matrix, the amount of sample cleanup, the number of compounds being separated, and column lifetime expectancy.

The in-line filter only protects a column against physical contaminants, while the VanGuard pre-column helps protect against both physical and chemical contaminants.

For a short column such as a 50 mm, a VanGuard may be recommended if column lifetime is the main issue, the customer does not want to do any further sample cleanup, and there are only a few compounds of interest and they have very good baseline separation.
