The solvent container went dry on my HPLC system; is my column ruined? - WKB53924

Article number: 53924

ENVIRONMENT

  • HPLC
  • GPC
  • APC
  • column

ANSWER

Possibly not; most HPLC systems do not continuously pump air through the system. However, if the column was in an oven and heated, it could have a negative effect on the column and possibly cause other problems.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

For reverse-phase columns, wet the column using a mobile phase like methanol and bring it to normal flow rate.

For GPC columns, remove column from the flow path so nothing is accidently flushed into the column.  Purge the system to remove air bubbles and make sure the solvent is the same solvent when the GPC column is placed back inline.  For additional column specific start up instructions, consult the appropriate column care and use manual.
