Is it OK to inject samples that contain detergents of 1% NP40 or 0.5% SDS onto a BEH 300A C4 column? - WKB108996

Article number: 108996

ENVIRONMENT

  • Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC)
  • Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC)
  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
  • Bridged ethylene hybrid (BEH)
  • BEH 300A C4 column

ANSWER

Yes, but see additional comments for guidance.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The presence of detergents such as SDS can alter the performance of a biomolecule separation on a BEH 300 C4 column. These detergents will not physically harm the column packing, but the chromatography will be negatively affected by these detergents. Routine monitoring with injections of a standard, as well as and column cleaning, will need to be performed regularly.

The best option is to perform sample cleanup prior to injection, to remove these detergents from the samples.
