Bad chromatography peaks with ACQUITY UPC2 system - WKB193176

SYMPTOMS

• Poor chromatography peak resolution.
• Irreproducibility retention times(PDA)
• The shapes of the chromatography peaks are bad.

ENVIRONMENT

• ACQUITY UPC2

CAUSE

There are various causes.

The following causes should be investigated.

• Pulsating ccBSM pressure
• Leakage at ccBSM
• Clogged ccBSM mixing filter (mixer)
• Degraded ccBSM pump seal and check valve
• Degraded ccBSM CO2 pump head cooler
• Pulsating ABPR pressure
• Degraded ABPR static valve cartridge
• Leakage or blockage somewhere on the system
• Degraded column
• Damaged in-line filter
• Degraded mobile phase solution
• Wrong mobile phase solution
• Degraded sample
• Wrong sample
• Low remaining level in CO2 cylinder
• Main plug of the CO2 cylinder not fully opened

FIX or WORKAROUND

Works that can be done by customers

1. Prime ccBSM with methanol for 30 minutes
2. Make sure there are no leakage that can be seen or heard
3. Perform a leak test of ccBSM (If it fails for 3 times, it should be addressed by a trained Waters engineer)
4. Prepare fresh mobile phase
5. Prepare fresh sample
6. Change the column with a new one
7. Check the condition of the CO2 cylinder

If the cause cannot be determined with above, ask a trained Waters engineer to address the problem.

1. Replace consumable parts of the ccBSM
2. ABPR Static Valve Cartridge
