SYMPTOMS

  • Inconsistent flow observed from waste outlet during prime 
  • Pressure trace in console shows fluctuations in accumulator during solvent transfer
  • Accumulator fails to compress during leak test
  • PM recently competed
  • Accumulator head, seal wash housing, and tubing replaced

ENVIRONMENT

  • ACQUITY UPLC BSM

CAUSE

Loose rotor mechanism in the vent valve prevents valve from aligning properly.

FIX or WORKAROUND

Replace the vent valve:

  • Classic ACQUITY BSM: 700002660
  • I-Class BSM: 700006052

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The rotor mechanism in a vent valve can be tested by manually turning the valve with pliers. If little or no resistance is felt, the valve has failed.
