Baseline fluctuation on the 2414 in a GPC system caused by tetrahydrofuran stored for an extended period - WKB121309

Article number: 121309

SYMPTOMS

  • The baseline fluctuation of the 2414 in a GPC system suddenly increased, while other parameters remained normal
  • The pressure of the 1515 pump was slightly higher than previously
  • Newly changed tetrahydrofuran solvent

ENVIRONMENT

  • GPC/SEC Option
  • 1515 Isocratic HPLC Pump
  • 2414 Refractive Index Detector

CAUSE

The newly purchased tetrahydrofuran contained a high level of peroxide and water due to an extended storage period, resulting in large baseline fluctuations.

FIX or WORKAROUND

The customer changed suppliers and purchased tetrahydrofuran that was freshly manufactured. After flushing the system and equilibrating the chromatographic system for a long time, the system pressure returned to normal, and the baseline fluctuation after injection returned to the normal range.
