How to replace an ESI reference probe in the LockSpray II source - WKB274465
Article number: 274465
OBJECTIVE or GOAL
Replace the reference probe (700012329) on a LockSpray II source.
ENVIRONMENT
- LockSpray II source
- SELECT SERIES Cyclic IMS
- SYNAPT XS
- Vion IMS QTof (serial numbers SAC onward)
- Xevo G2-XS QTof (serial numbers YFB onward)
- Xevo G3 QTof
PROCEDURE
- Place the instrument source in Standby and lower the source temperature to approximately 50 °C. Wait roughly 15 minutes for the ion block to cool down.
- Pull the reference probe upward and turn it in order to align the groove of the bayonet lock mechanism.

- Remove the PEEK tubing from the reference probe and open the source enclosure.

- From inside the source enclosure, pull the reference probe through the source enclosure feed-through.
Tip: If the seal within the feed-through is sticky, pipette 20 µL of LCMS-grade water into the gap between the reference probe and the
source enclosure feed-through.

- Turn the reference sprayer 90° with the tip upward and remove the reference probe from the sprayer.

- Gently insert the new reference probe into the sprayer and make the fitting finger-tight.

- The capillary from the probe should protrude 0.5 to 1 mm from the sprayer tip. If required, use a 4-mm spanner to adjust the sprayer tip.

Note: The tip from the sprayer has a black O-ring. This seals nebulizer gas inside the sprayer. Similarly, the fitting from the reference probe seals the gas flow at the rear of the sprayer, and a red O-ring seals the sprayer toward the instrument.

- With the probe tip pointing upward, insert the sprayer into the reference probe support assembly and turn it 90°.
With the groove directed toward the glass window, push the end of the probe into the source feed-through.
- Attach the PEEK tubing. Pull the probe completely into the feed-through and close the bayonet locking mechanism.
