MassLynx displays "acquiring" but no data is acquired - WKB22330

Article number: 22330

SYMPTOMS

  • The first sample injection completes as expected
  • The second sample is never injected, or MS acquisition stops in the middle of the run
  • In the bottom-right corner of MassLynx, it says "acquiring" but there is no scan count
  • Acquisition can be stopped, but in order to start a new injection, MassLynx needs to be restarted and the MS needs to be rebooted

ENVIRONMENT

  • Xevo TQ-S
  • Xevo TQ-S micro
  • Any MS
  • MassLynx

CAUSE

Corrupted MS method.

Possible cause 1: The auto dwell for one or more functions does not work. The typical 0.005 s dwell time becomes much longer (e.g., 268435 seconds). If a function contains eight channels, it would take 596 hours to complete the first data point.

Possible cause 2: The MS method was created on a different SCN version of MassLynx.

FIX or WORKAROUND

Fix: Create a new MS method from scratch.

Workaround option 1: Use manual dwell time instead of auto dwell.

Workaround option 2: Save an older, tested version of the MS method and update it as needed.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

After setting a manual dwell time and then going back to auto dwell, the calculation still didn't work. The auto dwell was 268435 s again.

When the corrupted MS method was transferred to another MassLynx PC, the auto dwell worked as expected.
