Column Manager - Active: No temperature response from the active preheater (APH) in console - WKB9662

SYMPTOMS

• No temperature response from the Active preheater (APH) in console
• CM-A/CM-Aux configuration:
  • Four active preheaters in the four column banks; none respond to temperature settings per the console
  • Set column 4 to 50 °C; the column temperature goes up, but according to the plots, the preheater remains at room temperature
  • Console shows them listed as "present"
• APHs are installed in the correct column positions
• APH positions are all configured as "Active" in console
• Instrument method control has Active Preheater selected as "Use Console Configuration"
• After removing the APH and setting a temperature, the CM-A does not trigger the expected "preheater is configured but not detected" message

ENVIRONMENT

• ACQUITY UPLC Column Manager - Active.
• ACQUITY UPLC Auxiliary Column Manager - Active.

CAUSE

The sensor is not recognized because the latch is broken and not securely sealing the cover onto the trough.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Replace the "Latch Set" or "Column Module Front Trough Cover".
   • 700005980 for the LATCH SET, CM-A/CM-AUX TROUGH COVER -L&R
   • 700005439 for the Column Module Front Trough Cover

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• Closing the compartment trough cover engages a magnet switch that turns on the 24V to the Active preheater. 
• The active preheater will operate at the set-point temperature of the selected column position when the trough compartment cover is closed.
