Article number: 275812

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Provide a step by step guide to QSM/ BSM check valve replacement.

ENVIRONMENT

  • ACQUITY UPLC H-Class
  • ACQUITY Quaternary Solvent Manager (QSM)
  • ACQUITY UPLC M-Class

PROCEDURE

NOTE: Each check valve (CV) has a plastic washer that needs to be inserted (flat side down) onto the top of the CV prior to installation.

  1. Power off the QSM/BSM
  2. For primary pump head rebuilds, raise the solvent lines above the mobile phase reservoir level to prevent syphoning.
  3. Use 1/4 inch spanner to remove 3 fittings under the check valves
  4. Remove fingertight fitting from active CV housing. A small drop of solvent may leak when this is removed.
  5. Use 1/4 inch spanner to loosen the active check valve housing and remove it from the pumphead.
  6. Using a T8 torx driver, loosen the 4 screws on top of the active CV housing.
  7. Remove the old check valve by pulling it upwards.
  8. Place new CV into the CV housing. Ensure the washer is sitting on top of the new CV.
  9. Push in the tabs either side of the CV housing and tighten the 4 screws using the T8 torx drive.
  10. Reinstall the active CV housing into the pumphead.
  11. Using the 1/4 inch spanner, tighten the active CV housing into the pumphead with a 1/4 turn.
  12. Reinstall the fingertight tiffing into the active CV housing.
  13. Using the 1/2 inch spanner, remove the accumulator CV from the pumphead.
  14. Install a new accumulator CV, ensuring the washer is installed on top of the CV.
  15. Using a 1/2 inch spanner, tighten the CV into place.
  16. Reinstall tubing connecting the accumulator CV to the primary transducer.
  17. Use a 1/4 inch spanner to tighten the fittings the last 1/4 turn.
  18. Reconnect the tubing to the accumulator transducer.
  19. Power on the QSM/BSM.
  20. Prime with MeOH in one line for at least 5 minutes.
  21. Start the flow in MeOH to energize checkvalves, keep instrument under flow for at least 5 minutes.
  22. Return proper phases for analysis.
