How to create an instrument method to turn off flow, lamp, and temperature in the event of a fault in Empower - WKB198469

Article number: 198469

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Create an Empower instrument method that will stop the flow of the pump, turn off the lamp, and turn off the temperature if an error occurs during a run.

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower 3
  • Alliance HPLC System
  • ACQUITY UPLC

PROCEDURE

  1. Add a line in the Gradient Method for the pump to turn the flow to zero at a period of time after the run time. (See example below.)
  2. Add a line in the Events table for the detector to turn off the lamp at a period of time after the run time. (See example below.)
    • Be sure to select "Run Events".
  3. Add a line in the Events table for the autosampler to set the Sample Temperature to ambient at a period of time after the run time. (See example below.)
    • Be sure to select "Run Events"
  4. Add a line in the Events table for the autosampler to set the Column Temperature to ambient at a period of time after the run time. (See example below.)
    • Be sure to select "Run Events"

NOTE: The ACQUITY UPLC Column Manager does NOT have an Events tab in the Instrument Method. Therefore, the column temperature cannot be set to ambient in the event of an error.
